Busch Gardens

Tampa, Florida

Creating themed environments for zoological exhibits requires in-depth knowledge of habitat. Foster Conant & Associates developed a plant manual that identifies plant types and toxicities related to animal species. While designing the plant communities, FCA created one acre test plots for use by animals to understand the grazing and browsing habits of each species. This information allowed for successful and sustainable exhibits that are true to the geographic location of the exhibit. Emulating an African Savannah, projects such as Edge of Africa, Rhino Rally and the Veldt Expansion required thematic and animal compatible landscapes. Also, following the theme of Busch Gardens, roller coaster rides such as Gwazi and Cheetah Hunt are immersed in landscaping that builds on the African character.
