Universal Orlando Area Development

Orlando, Florida

In order to tie the theme park expansion together, the common areas between the various venues became a critical project. The main objective was connecting Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios to the central City Walk retail district. Also, hotel properties needed to be interconnected by way of roads, sidewalks, and waterways. Our work involved the creation of two major pedestrian bridges, the reconstruction of the Universal Studio Arch, the Globe Fountain, and the pedestrian connection between the two parks. The Studio’s bridge setting has become one of Universal’s most photographed guest locations. Extending beyond the parks, wide meandering pedestrian walks are blended with garden views. Paralleling the garden walks is a waterway transportation system heavily planted along its adjacent shores. Vehicular movement through the property is on dedicated city streets that are seamlessly planted to the adjacent landscapes. Roadway elements were closely coordinated with the graphic and signage package. Hundreds of tall stately Washingtonia palms line the main boulevards.
